Leaves rustled, water trilled – and then the black sky filled with kaleidoscopic light from above, a light that grew brighter and brighter. At first it was a speck, then no bigger than the moon, then it seemed larger, infinitely larger, a blazing, glaring thing of pure light, and the whole night trembled and quivered and the wild things looked about them in terror.
